The northern part of Tanzania that forms the core of Africa's Big Game Safaris and Wildlife tours is characterized by mountains. These include the famous Mt. Meru atanding at over 4,566 metres above sea level and Mount Kilimanjaro with the highest point in Africa standing at 5,895 m. The adjacent parts form the main Wildlife Safari circuit of northern Tanzania which feature some of the best National parks for an African Safari enthusiast. The other protected wildlife areas include Serengeti National Park associated with the annual Wild beast Migrations, Lake Manyara, Tarangire, Ngorongoro Craters,Rubondo, Chimpanzee sanctuaries of Gombe Stream and other areas of interest.

The Ngorongoro Conservation covers close to 9000 square kilometres and occupies a region from Lake Natron in the northeast streching towards Lake Enyasi down in the south. Lake Manyara lies east from here from the area which does still have active Volcanoes, namely Ol-Ndoinyo Lengai. The Olduvai Gorge home of the first humans on earth together with the Ngorongoro Crater offer some of the largest concetration of wildlife in Africa. The Ngorongoro Crater does have one of the largest intact caldera in the world and is sometimes included on the natural world wonders.

The southern part of Tanzania although hardly visited by the mass tourists and safari vehicles, offers some of the greatest safari experiences in privacy. The most popular destination for Tanzanian Safaris to this area is the Selous National Park which is famous for its large herds of Elephants, basking crocodiles and hippo schools. Other Game parks in the south are Mikumi and Ruaha parks.
